Presentation of the Study

The Philosophy Behind the Study

The Choiseul 100 Africa ranking – The emerging economic players is an annual study independently carried out by Choiseul Africa. It identifies, ranks, and promotes the 200 young African leaders aged 40 and under who, through their activity and influence, are currently and will continue to play a major role in Africa’s economic development in the near future.

As the outcome of several months of work, Choiseul engages numerous experts and specialists from the continent to conduct this groundbreaking study, which assesses the driving forces of the African economy.

The study aims to represent all regions of Africa and as many countries as possible to identify an elite cohort from across the continent, and from all value-creating sectors.

Steps of the study

The course of the study of the 2024 edition of the Choiseul 100 Africa spans from February to October 2024, unfolding into four main steps:

  • Defining the methodology and objectives;
  • Updating the 2023 ranking;
  • Researching and selecting new profiles;
  • Validating and refining the final ranking highlighting the 200 most promising young African economic leaders.

Eligibility conditions

Only profiles meeting certain conditions are considered:

  • Being a national of an African country;
  • Being 40 years of age or under on the 1st January 2024;
  • Being an active contributor to the economic development of Africa;
  • Not having an elective office as their main occupation.

Selection criteria

A series of criteria guides the pre-selection and final selection of the laureates, including:

  • Nationality, activity and type of company/institution;
  • Person’s role and function within the company/institution;
  • Turnover or budget of the organisation;
  • Number of employees of the organisation;
  • Geographical areas covered;
  • Associative commitments and influence of the person.

The top first 100 are ranked from 1st to 100th place. A second list, the Choiseul 200, contains 100 additional profiles between 101st and 200th into three categories: three stars, two stars, and one star.

As the study ends on October 2024, professional developments after this date are not taken into account.
